2023 will be our 11th year coming together to raise funds to advance multiple myeloma research. With over $1 million raised so far we are proud to be part of the progress happening with more treatment options, longer lifespans, new CAR T-cell research. We are excited for what's to come and we won't stop until there is a cure.
Our Mission: Defeat Multiple Myeloma’s mission is to raise awareness of multiple myeloma while supporting research that seeks to discover new treatments, improve the quality of life for multiple myeloma patients, and ultimately find a cure for this devastating form of cancer.
Event History: Defeat Multiple Myeloma began as MoveMMORE Seattle in 2013. The race was presented by Multiple Myeloma Opportunities for Research and Education (MMORE), a 501(c)(3) that was founded in Ohio by the parents of a young woman who was diagnosed with multiple myeloma at the age of 22. Fortunately, their daughter, Sarah, is in remission and happily living in Seattle with her husband and two children. MMORE closed its doors at the end of 2016, passing the torch to larger organizations. With the help of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, the Multiple Myeloma Cure Seeker’s Society, and our amazing group of dedicated volunteers, we’ve been given the opportunity to keep this wonderful event going. In 2017, this event transitioned to Defeat Multiple Myeloma Run/Walk, with 100% of funds raised supporting multiple myeloma research at Fred Hutch. Our 2019 event was a huge success with more than 600 participants. In 2020 and 2021, despite a pandemic and a quick pivot to a virtual event, we broke a new fundraising records, donating over $120,000 in each year to advance life-sustaining research! In 2022 we celebrated our 10 year anniversary and the return to in-person running, walking and celebrating Myeloma patients and survivors. With 480 participants, together we raised a record amount of $160,701!
In 2022 we celebrated our 10 year anniversary and the return to in-person running, walking and celebrating Myeloma patients and survivors.
We have a feeling that 2023 will be our biggest and best year yet!
We know that with the help of the amazing Seattle community, we will see a day when there is a cure for multiple myeloma. Until then, we are committed to fundraising for a cure!
